CPI likely to accelerate in rest of year

This is from the September 6, 2008 edition of The Saigon Times.
The consumer price index (CPI) has shown signs of slowing down in recent months, but experts have cautioned that consumer prices will likely rise faster in the rest of the year.
Nguyen Ming Phuong, deputy head of the Research Department of the Hanoi Institute for Socio-economic Development Studies, told the Saigon Times that there would be little chance for the index to slow down before the year's end. Traditionally consumer demand rises sharply ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays, causing prices to soar. Therefore, the CPI this year could range from 27% to 30% if it rises about 1.5% a month in the remaining four months of the year.
